Catherine Clark: Eminent domain is a situation where the government decides it wants somebody's private property for a public use. Most people don't understand-

-in an eminent domain situation that they're dealing with a very clever group of people who work for the government or the condemning authority. They have my respect and they know exactly what they're doing. I think it is unwise for a person to represent themselves in an eminent domain action or any other action and it is a complicated process and it involves every aspect of real estate. There are many pitfalls for the unwary and the unknowing. I think it's important for any person involved in a lawsuit to call an attorney and ask some basic questions. Nothing obligates that person to hire the lawyer but those who do hire lawyers generally end up better in the end. Sometimes eminent domain cases are just unjust and sometimes you have to stand up for what is right. And a good lawyer would do that for a client. Not only in the circumstance of protecting a business and the jobs of the employees but also being a check on the government.
